It was a troubled qualifying session, with rain punishing the Velopark Speedway, but Marcos Gomes overcame all these adversities to take his first pole position in the 2022 Stock Car season this Sunday (3). It is the 13th time that the Cavaleiro Sports pilot starts from the front in the category's history.

Gomes pointed out that the mental side in a situation like the qualifying is extremely important to obtain a performance like the one in this sixth round. "I was very calm today, my psychology was very calm. Of course it's very difficult, but we rode well all weekend here," said the driver.

The pilot also talked about how the car setup is close to ideal at Velopark. "The track becomes an unknown in the rain, but during Q1, it was already possible to see how competitive we were, that we could have a great performance without taking too much risk.

Marcos' fight with Felipe Baptista for the pole-position was very hard and, with the two points earned, the son of Paulão Gomes moved up to 15th in the classification, with 65 points. The flying lap of 1min04s460 was crucial and was made under a very well calculated strategy. "I let myself take more risks in the last lap of Q3, and it worked out well. I am very happy with the pole position, especially in these very difficult conditions.

Now, Gomes' focus is for later today, at 2:10 pm (Brasília time) and, with the result obtained this morning, the victory becomes closer, especially in a track where overtaking is difficult. "I have to concentrate to the maximum for the race and hope that everything goes well and, who knows, I can win this one," he completed.
