After two convincing performances with the #88 Chevrolet Camaro in the NASCAR Xfinity Series on the mixed tracks of the Circuit of the Americas and Road America, Miguel Paludo faces this week a new track in his career. The seven-time Porsche Cup champion will speed at the mythical Indianapolis track with the car prepared by JR Motorsports.
It is the third and last round of the Xfinty Series on a mixed circuit this season, and the driver from Rio Grande do Sul hopes to keep the good impression he has left since 2021, when he received as a prize from BRANDT the right to compete again in NASCAR.
In the five races held since then, he has always been among the top ten even starting from the middle of the grid. He finished seventh in last year's race at Daytona and ninth this year at the Circuit of the Americas, where he had broken away in 2021 when he was sixth. On two other occasions, Mid-Ohio-2021 and at the Road America race earlier this month, he ended up collected in crashes in the final segment when fighting in the top five.
Now in Indianapolis again the challenges are big: getting to know a new track, making the most of free practice and Friday's quali to guarantee a spot on the grid for the 151.2-mile race.
The race is scheduled for 62 laps, with segments 1 and 2 ending in turns 20 and 40.
The weekend of speed at the most traditional track in the United States promises a full house and a grand event. In addition to the Xfinity Series race, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway hosts the NASCAR Cup Series race and the ninth round of the 2022 Indycar season.
The start of Paludo's race is scheduled for 4:30 pm on Saturday, with broadcasting on Bandsports.
What he said:
"The expectation is great. Indianapolis is one of the great stages of motor sports not only in the United States, but in the world. I've never done a lap around the track and it will be a very interesting adaptation. We did a lot of simulator preparation and very productive planning meetings with the JR Motorsports engineering team. We are going all out for another great weekend with the #88 car. It's my third and last chance this year and I see it as an opportunity to do a good job, show competitiveness and carry the colors of our flag and BRANDT in NASCAR. We will have more than 150 BRANDT guests at the race, many of them Brazilians, and it promises to be a very special Saturday.
