Moto2 returns to action on Saturday (25), with qualifying for the Dutch GP, starting at 10:10 a.m. (ET).GRANDE PRÊMIO is following all the activities of the 11th round of the 2022 Moto2 World Championship.
How the first Moto2 practice sessions went in Assen:
Arón Canet was fastest in the first free practice with 1min46s877, followed by Fermín Aldeguer, Augusto Fernández, Somkiat Chantra and Tony Arbolino. One of the major absentees from the category is Pedro Acosta, who fractured the femur in his left leg during motocross practice and is now recovering from surgery.
With the track almost dry, Joe Roberts was the first to set a time in the afternoon session: 1min40s240, already well down on Canet. Augusto Fernández was the next to start, but soon fell to Jake Dixon, who set a 1min38s849. Fernández, Jorge Navarro, Barry Baltus and Filip Salac were close behind.
Alonso López took the lead with 1min38s521 and had Baltus 0s273 behind. Still with many exchanges, Fernández returned to the lead by 1min37s: 1min37s908. López and Roberts were behind.
Sam Lowes jumped to second when he took 1min38s425. Soon after, he had a crash at turn 4, but got up without too many problems. Roberts got closer to the leader, who still held a 0.098s098 advantage. At the same time, the Ajo driver was lowering his pace: 1min37s840.
This happened until Albert Arenas reached the 1min37s: 1min37s569, 0s271 behind Fernández. Minutes later, Fernández crashed, but also got back on track. After going to the pits for the last adjustments, the drivers returned for their last spins.
Augusto then took the opportunity to retake the lead. Only it didn't last long. Joe Roberts was 'cooking' his attempts to overtake the Spaniard in the final seconds and take the lead of the session.
