Quartararo complains about the grip of hard tires in Germany: "As if they were used".

Fabio Quartararo struggled with the hard tires in Friday's free practice for the German MotoGP GP. When asked if the medium compounds would be better, the Frenchman showed concern about the wear

Fabio Quartararo left Friday's free practice session worried about the grip of the Yamaha at the Sachsenring circuit, which hosts the tenth round of the 2022 MotoGP World Championship this weekend. The championship leader managed to be only seventh fastest in free practice 2, and although he improved his pace throughout the session, he still saw Francesco Bagnaia's Ducati 0s3 faster.

The Frenchman explained that he used a harder compound on the rear of his bike during the first session of the day, but it felt like a used tire. Because of this he could not be consistent enough at the start.

"I could turn 1min26s6, 1min26s5, but compared to the top guys, they were turning 1min20s high or 1min21s low, and I wasn't," he said. "In terms of performance, at the beginning, I didn't feel anything positive. I went out with a new hard tire that didn't work," Quartararo added.

For the second session of the day, like the other riders on the grid, the #20 used the softer rubber and managed to compensate for the disadvantage, getting closer to the Ducati's time. Still, it was not easy to find the grip to start turning in the 1min20s.

"When I switched to soft, the gap was very big, so I wouldn't say it was difficult to do a good counter attack, but the first lap was in 20s6, then I managed to do two in 20s4. I could have done much better, but when you come from a hard tire to a soft one, the difference is very big," added the Frenchman.

Asked if perhaps the medium rubber was the best option, the season leader said yes, although he had only used it in the morning for 24 laps. The big question, however, is the greater wear compared to the hard tires. "We need to find a solution, because I remember struggling that much with grip on the first day in Barcelona."

"I hope to improve tomorrow [Saturday in qualifying]. We struggle more when the grip is low, so hopefully it will be better and we can improve," he finished.
