Fabio Quartararo won the German GP on Sunday morning (19), taking Yamaha's fifth victory at Sachsenring - the last time was in 2009, with Valentino Rossi
Fabio Quartararo won once again this season. And rightfully so. The Nice rider started very well, overtook pole-position Francesco Bagnaia - who had to retire a few laps later - already in the first corner, and managed his race to cross the finish line with confidence after 30 laps. In doing so he not only extended his lead in the World Championship, but ended a 13-year drought without a Yamaha victory on the Sachsenring circuit.
The last time a bike from the Hamamatsu factory had been on the top step of the podium in Germany was in 2009 with Valentino Rossi. Since 1998 Yamaha has had four wins at the German circuit, with Rossi and Max Biaggi. Now 'El Diablo' enters the statistics and ends the long period without a win in Chemnitz.
This week, the #20 had already said that "it wouldn't be the same to win without Marc Márquez in Germany". The Spaniard, who is recovering from a new surgery on his right arm and is away from the track, has an impressive dominance. Márquez simply has eight consecutive wins at Sachsenring, won from 2013 to 2021.
Quartararo took his 11th MotoGP victory, as well as his 25th podium with Yamaha. MotoGP returns to the track next week for the Dutch GP in Assen, the 11th round of the 2022 season.GRANDE PRÊMIO is following all the activities of the 2022 MotoGP World Championship.
