Three-time 125cc class champion Luigi Taveri will be honored by MotoGP in Austria in August and included in the Legends of the category
MotoGP will add another name to the list of legends of the category. It will be three-time champion Luigi Taveri, who will be honored at the Austrian GP, the 14th round of the World Motorcycle Championship, between August 19 and 21.
Born in 1929, the Swiss rider debuted in the 250cc and 500cc classes in 1954. In the following season he competed in 125cc bikes - he was runner-up that year - and 250cc. He didn't actually win his first 125cc title until 1962.
After that he won two more 125cc championships, in 1964 and 1966, to secure his place in motorcycling history. Between his debut and his retirement in 1966, Taveri raced in the 50cc, 125cc, 250cc, 350cc, and 500cc classes, winning the first three, and finishing on the podium in the 350cc. He is one of the few riders to score GP points in the 50cc, 125cc, 250cc, 350cc, and 500cc classes.
