The FIM Commissioners Panel (International Motorcycling Federation) considered that the Yamaha rider was not in a position to complete an overtake when he attacked his Aprilia rival at turn 5 of the Dutch circuit and ended up jeopardizing the Catalan's result. Therefore, the Frenchman will have to do a long lap in the British GP

Fabio Quartararo did not escape unscathed from the incident with Aleix Espargaró at the Dutch GP of MotoGP on Sunday (26th). The FIM (International Motorcycling Federation) Panel of Commissioners considered that the World Riders' Championship leader was "over-ambitious" and therefore imposed a sanction that will have to be enforced at the British GP, scheduled for August 7.
On the fifth lap of the Assen race, Quartararo tried to attack Aleix at De Strubben, turn 5, but made a mistake and crashed, pushing the Aprilia starter off the track. Both managed to get back into contention, but Fabio missed the flag, as the tumble damaged the traction control, which caused him to be ejected from the YZR-M1 later in the race.

Aleix, meanwhile, climbed the field and took the flag in fourth place, cutting 13 points off Quartararo's lead in the race for the 2022 championship.
Soon after the move, the stewards announced that the incident would be reviewed, and hours after the end of the race, they confirmed the sanction.
"During the MotoGP race in Assen, an incident between rider #20, Fabio Quartararo, and #41, Aleix Espargaró, saw the #20 crash and make contact with the #41 at turn 5," the text of the press release reads. "The FIM Commissioners' Panel considered that Quartararo was overly ambitious in his attempt to overtake A. Espargaró. The #20 was not in a position to successfully complete the maneuver and subsequently crashed, causing contact with the #41 and causing him to go off track," it followed.
"The action to deflect contact taken by A. Espargaró allowed him to avoid the crash and continue. However, his race was severely impacted," he reported. "Quartararo received a long lap punishment, which will be served at the MotoGP British GP," it concluded.
