Francesco Bagnaia flew away at the end with a 1min20s018 and let no one take the lead in TL2 at Sachsenring
The second free practice session of the German GP was very similar to the first: a start with many exchanges of positions with a quieter finish. That's how Francesco Bagnaia set the best time of TL2 - and of the day too, by the way. With 1min20s018, the Ducati rider set a new Sachenring track record.
Behind him, Luca Marini was 0s115 behind with 1min20s133. The VR46 rider beat Jack Miller at the very end. The Australian thus rounded out the top three. Aleix Espargaró and Johann Zarco completed the fourth and fifth positions, respectively. In other words, four Ducati bikes in the top five.
Rounding out the top-10 were Jorge Martín, Fabio Quartararo, Maverick Viñales, Fabio Di Giannantonio, and Joan Mir.
The MotoGP TL3 for the German GP at Sachsenring, the tenth round of the season, takes place this Saturday at 4:55 AM (EST).GRANDE PRÊMIO follows all the activities of the 2022 MotoGP World Championship.
Find out how the second MotoGP practice session for the German GP went:
The sun continued its presence for the second MotoGP practice at Sachsenring. The temperature at the circuit was around 24°C, with 46°C on the asphalt. Relative humidity was at 34%, and the wind speed was 11 km/h in an easterly direction.
The first rider to lead the afternoon session in Germany was Miguel Oliveira, with 1min21s166. Jorge Martín was behind. Things changed seconds later: Aleix Espargaró took the lead with 1min20s789, bringing down Jack Miller's mark in the first practice session by quite a bit.
The Pramac duo were right behind Espargaró. Francesco Bagnaia soon jumped into second position, 0s082 behind the Aprilia rider. With only ten minutes left in the session, most of the riders were able to improve their times.
The riders took advantage of several minutes to test adjustments. Therefore, the table didn't change so much. The different name at the top was that of Maverick Viñales, who took third position with 1min21s080, 0s291 behind his teammate.
With 20 minutes to go, six Ducati bikes were in the top-10. Who appeared minutes later in the heads was Álex Rins, putting the Suzuki in third position with 1min21s025, 0s236 behind Aleix. The interesting thing was that until the 30th minute of practice, only two riders had times within 1min20s: Espargaró and Bagnaia.
That changed, however, when Joan Mir put in an excellent lap of 1min20s881, still 0s092 behind his teammate. Only Jack Miller proved a good pace on Friday (17) when he returned to the lead at the very end: 1min20s211.
The Australian was overtaken by Bagnaia in the final minutes with 1min20s132, who improved on the next lap: 1min20s018. Luca Marini was behind, unseating Jack Miller. And that's exactly how the second practice session ended. Bagnaia in the lead, with Marini and Miller rounding out the top three.
