Francesco Bagnaia was involved in a traffic accident in the early hours of Tuesday (5) in Ibiza, Spain. According to the local newspaper Diario de Ibiza, the 25-year-old Italian lost control of his car on one of the city's roads and ran off the road.
The Civil Guard and the local police of Sant Josep were present at the scene, according to the Spanish newspaper Marca. Bagnaia underwent a breathalyzer test, which was positive at 0.87 mg/l - the limit is 0.60 mg/l.
On his social networks, the Italian released a statement revealing that the accident involved no other people or vehicles, and apologized for driving after consuming alcoholic beverages.
"During last night, I was in Ibiza with my friends for a party during the MotoGP vacation. We celebrated, we toasted together for my win in the Dutch GP. Then, as I was leaving the nightclub at 3am, I found a detour on the way and ended up with my front wheels in a ditch, in an incident that involved no other people or vehicles," Francesco explained.

"However, the policemen decided to do the breathalyzer test, which showed a higher amount of alcohol in the blood than allowed by Spanish law. I am very sorry for what happened. I hardly ever drink, and this was a very serious oversight that should never have happened. I want to apologize to everyone; I can assure you that I have learned my lesson. Never drive after drinking. Thank you," said Bagnaia.
The Ducati rider is on vacation, as MotoGP goes on a break, and will resume on August 7, with the British GP.
In the World Championship season Bagnaia has three wins and four pole-positions. He is fourth in the Drivers' World Championship, where defending champion Fabio Quartararo leads with 172 points.
