Francesco Bagnaia knows Fabio Quartararo's strength in the competition, but bets on his mathematical chances to try to fight for the title
So far Francesco Bagnaia has two wins and two pole-positions in MotoGP 2022. These are good results, if one takes into account the extremely competitive season. However, having three retirements in 10 rounds, he finds himself in fifth position in the championship, 66 points behind leader Fabio Quartararo.
He is still hoping to cut into the current champion's good lead. Thinking about the mathematical chances, he emphasizes that the expectations for 2022 are much higher than those of 2021, when he was runner-up.
"Last year I had the ambition to win the championship, this year the ambition is even higher and so is the potential. However, Fabio [Quartararo] is the greatest on the track, he rides super well, but we can be a good opponent for him," he explained.

"I hope the work we are doing will help me in these two races before the vacations. But cutting 66 points now will be hard for us. We still have a chance, mathematically speaking," he added.
Pecco comes from a difficult weekend. He had to retire from the Catalunya GP after Takaaki Nakagami lost control and touched his bike - the LCR rider was badly injured as he touched his head on the Italian's rear tire. After a week off, Bagnaia hopes that the German GP can kick-start this 'recovery', even though it is not a very favorable circuit for Ducati historically.
"It was wonderful to forget what happened in the previous race, I want to think about the next ones. [Sachsenring] is a difficult circuit for the Ducati, but last year in the race I started to be quite competitive and was riding comfortable. I think it can be a good weekend for us," he closed.
