Aleix Espargaró uses deflector with slicks, is punished and ends Friday last in Assen

The FIM (International Motorcycling Federation) Panel of Commissioners announced that it had cancelled all the Aprilia rider's times in the last exit of TL2 for using a water deflector on the rear wheel while wearing slick tires, which is forbidden by MotoGP regulations. As a result, the Catalan rider dropped to last place

Aleix Espargaró was punished and lost the second best time in Friday's (24th) practice session for the Dutch GP of MotoGP. The FIM (International Motorcycling Federation) Panel of Commissioners sanctioned the Catalan rider for the use of a deflector in the final part of TL2, canceling all the times of the last exit and leaving the Aprilia rider in last place, but 8s behind leader Francesco Bagnaia.

In the statement released by the sport's governing body, the stewards explained that the Catalan rider had broken the regulations by using a water deflector while wearing slick tires.

"In accordance with Article 3.5.5 of the FIM Grand Prix World Championship Regulations, we confirm that on June 24, 2022, at the third exit in TL2 of the Dutch GP, you were caught using a rear water spoiler (added) while using slicks tires on both the front and rear wheel. This contravenes Article 2.4.4.7.10e) of the FIM MotoGP World Championship Regulations," he followed.

"For the reasons listed above, the FIM Commissioners Panel imposed the cancellation of his last outing in TL2 while wearing the water deflector at the rear (added) while using slicks tires both front and rear," he announced.
