Will Power takes pole for both Indy races in Iowa

There were two poles delivered in the IndyCar qualifying session on Saturday morning, as the two races of the Iowa double round were determined by consecutive laps around the short oval.

It was Team Penske's Will Power who outpaced the rest of the pack and set the fastest time in each of his two laps. His first was completed in 18s0607 and the second in 18s0796, making him the only driver to exceed an average of 178 miles per hour on either of his laps.

Josef Newgarden will start alongside Power in both races. Conor Daly looked like he would take another pole at the track where he scored his only previous pole, but fell to the second row in both races when the lap was completed.

Alexander Rossi was one of several drivers who struggled with a loose car in the qualifying session, in part because his car had a race setup for the fast laps.

With the impound rules in place this weekend, there are almost no changes allowed between the morning qualifying session and the first race of the afternoon. No one ended up touching the wall, however, and it was a clean qualifying session overall.

Colton Herta was much faster on his second lap, allowing him to start third for the second race on Sunday. However, he hopes to switch engines before the second race, which would give him a grid penalty.
