Japanese Takuma Sato finished TL4 of the Indianapolis 500 on top after also leading the second free practice on Tuesday. Helio Castroneves was the best Brazilian in 22nd place
Japan's Takuma Sato was fastest in the fourth free practice for the Indianapolis 500. The Dale Coyne driver posted a time of 39s557 to finish in first place, something that had already happened in the second practice on Tuesday. New Zealander Scott Dixon, who was fastest in the first session on Tuesday morning, finished second with Ganassi. Sato's Dale Coyne teammate, rookie David Malukas finished third.
Foyt veteran JR Hildebrand finished fourth and was the best Chevrolet driver. Jimmie Johnson closed the top-five with Ganassi. McLaren's Pato O'Ward, Ganassi's Marcus Ericsson, McLaren's Felix Rosenqvist, Meyer Shank's Simon Pagenaud, and Carpenter's Ed Carpenter rounded out the top ten.
After a day without activities on Wednesday due to rain, Meyer Shank's Helio Castroneves finished 22nd and was the best Brazilian in the fourth practice for the 2022 Indy 500. Tony Kanaan was 29th with Ganassi.
Current category leader, Australian Will Power finished only 21st with Penske, but was the fastest in the non-vacuum laps, ahead of Rinus VeeKay and Ed Carpenter, both from Carpenter. Jimmie Johnson was by far the driver with the most laps completed, with a total of 153.
The yellow flag was triggered at only two points in the session, the first after an hour of practice and the second an hour before the end of practice. Both stops occurred for track cleaning.
The Indy drivers are back on track this Friday for the fifth free practice, known as Fast Friday. On Saturday, there is one more practice session before qualifying. The twelve fastest drivers will advance to Fast 12 and will compete for pole position on Sunday. The 106th edition of the Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for May 29.
