Rosenqvist thanks McLaren after pole in Indianapolis: "I knew it was the right lap

McLaren's Felix Rosenqvist thwarted the favoritism of Penske and Ganassi, and will start from the pole-position of the Indianapolis GP 2. The Swede posted a time of 1min10s226 in the qualifying session held on Friday (29) and will start from the position of honor on Saturday. It was the driver's third pole position at Indy, and his second in the mixed race at Indianapolis.

Rosenqvist, who hugged teammate Pato O'Ward in the pole celebration, gave big thanks to McLaren for Friday's performance. In 2022, the Swede had already started first at the Texas GP, where he abandoned the race due to mechanical problems.

"McLaren was incredible. A big thanks to everyone who made it possible. We were good all day, I was so calm in the car, I think I already knew when I did the lap that it was the right one. I really thank the team for the car," he commented in an interview with NBCSN.

Rosenqvist also explained the strategy used to save soft tires during the Fast Six. Felix competed for pole against teammate Pato O'Ward, as well as Josef Newgarden, Will Power, Alexander Rossi and Christian Lundgaard.

"We only did one lap, and I warned them that if it was good, they could call me into the pits to save tires for the next lap, so it all worked out pretty well," he added.

The GP of Indianapolis 2 is scheduled to start at 1 pm (GMT-3) on Saturday.GRANDE PRÊMIOwill provide complete coverage. The race will be broadcast by TV Cultura on free-to-air channels, ESPN4 on pay TV, and Star+ on streaming.
