Christian Rasmussen took his first victory in the Indy Lights Series on Sunday at Road America. Starting from the third position, the Dane jumped to the lead in the first corner and led 18 of the 20 laps of the race. His Andretti teammate, American Sintg Ray Robb, who started from the pole-position, was second, with Hunter McElrea completing an Andretti podium.

Current Indy Lights leader Linus Lundqvist of Dale Coyne, Sweden, finished fourth, with Abel Motorsports' Jacob Abel fifth. Matthew Brabham, James Roe Jr., Danial Frost, Kyffin Simpson, and Ernie Francis Jr. rounded out the top 10.

The race was marked by a strong crash by Christian Bogle. The American went over the zebra in turn 5 and his Dale Coyne was thrown into the retaining wall, which was destroyed in part. The red flag was brought out, and, because of repairs, the race was stopped for more than four hours and only resumed after the Indy race.

Rasmussen's first victory could have come in the first race of the year in St. Pete, but a mechanical problem on the last lap took him out of contention. Last weekend, the reigning 2000 Indy Pro champion dropped out of both races in Detroit, in what he called "the worst weekend of my life.

With the result, the Dane climbed to the sixth position in the standings, 115 points behind Lundqvist. The Indy Lights race returns on July 3, for the Mid-Ohio GP.
