Power celebrates "huge" result with two pole-positions in Iowa

After four straight races without qualifying above the 15th position, Australian Will Power confirmed Penske's favoritism and set the two fastest qualifying laps at the Iowa oval on Saturday morning (23). As a result, Power will start from the pole position in both Saturday's race and Sunday's race, a result he considered "gigantic".

"It's gigantic man, gigantic. I'm very happy to have gotten two pole-positions, I've been watching this race, in testing I've worked hard to get everything right for qualifying and the race. So we know what we have, the car is good. It will be a difficult race because of the heat and the tire wear, so it will be important to manage that with traffic. We'll see what we can do," Will said after qualifying.

Penske had already proven to have a good setup in testing in Iowa in June, and this was confirmed in qualifying, with the Australian on top and his teammate Josef Newgarden in second position for both races. Power revealed that he has high expectations for the weekend, as he knows that the team has a good race pace.

"The car is very good at race pace and the single laps today were obviously very good as well. I don't know how it will do with a full tank at the start, but there were two very committed laps today," said the Penske driver.

With the result, Power reached 66 pole-positions in his career at Indy, and is only one behind Mario Andreti, the record holder in the category. The start of the Iowa 1 GP is scheduled for 5 pm EST, with full coverage by BIG PRÊMIO.
