Will Power arrived for the Iowa GP 1 as one of the big favorites after setting not only one but both poles for this weekend's races. The Australian controlled the first few laps, but was overtaken by fellow Penske driver Josef Newgarden, who won for the fourth time in 2022.

Even without the win, the result did not upset Power, who explained that he had problems managing the rear tires for much of the race at the oval. At the end of the race, the Australian lost second position to Mexico's Pato O'Ward, and narrowly missed out on third place to Dutchman Rinus VeeKay. All this scenario contributes to Will's positive view of the result in Iowa.

"We were very strong before the first yellow flag. Then, in the restart, I had to push the tires hard to keep the guys behind, I had to hold the car back, and I wore the rear tires out by the end. I also pushed hard in the dirty air behind Josef. I was very happy to finish third still, to hold on like this," explained the Australian.

"The tires were completely out at the end, it was crazy. It's kind of fun, you ride on the side a lot, but it was a great effort by the whole team. Another podium, you never look back and think that was a bad day. So it was a good day!" celebrated Power.

With the result, Will fell to third in the Indy standings and is 22 points behind leader Marcus Ericsson. Power will start again in the pole-position for the Iowa 2 GP, which will be held at 4 pm this Sunday (24th) with full coverage by GRANDE PRÊMIO.
