O'Ward celebrates pole-position at Mid-Ohio: "Best view of the first corner".

Pato O'Ward celebrated his first pole position in the 2022 Indy season and revealed that he was able to extract the full potential of the car after making mistakes in the first two parts of qualifying

Pato O'Ward showed the power of McLaren and took his first pole position of the 2022 Indy season at Mid-Ohio on Saturday (2). The Mexican became the ninth different pole in nine races so far, and revealed that he was only able to put in a lap and extract the full potential of the car in the last part of qualifying, in the Fast Six.

"It was a good session for us. I couldn't fit a lap in the first two sessions, but I did in the third time. The car is great, we didn't start in the best possible way, but we made great changes during the night, we put ourselves in a good window and I was able to extract the full potential," explained Pato.

This was the fifth pole of O'Ward's career. In his three races at Mid-Ohio, the McLaren driver has a best result of eighth place, but has a very poor qualifying record. Taking the top spot definitely puts him in a much better position to get his first win at the circuit.

"It's huge, it's a race where track position is very important. I think the best starting position I'd ever had here was 18th, so first is definitely better than that," celebrated the Mexican.

"It's a long race, a lot can happen, but we are in a good starting position and we have the best view into the first corner. We will give our maximum tomorrow," Pato concluded.

The start of the Mid-Ohio GP is scheduled for 1:50 pm EST this Sunday (3), with full coverage by GRANDE PRÊMIO.
