Newgarden throws away chance for leadership and adds to Indy 2022 drama

The Iowa double round certainly had big implications for the Indy championship in 2022, and increased the drama for the final stretch. Penske's American Josef Newgarden had everything to finish with two wins on the weekend, but the crash on Sunday caused the two-time champion to lose a possible lead and close the cornfield with a 34-point gap to Marcus Ericsson.

There are five races left until the close of the 2022 season, and five contenders look firmly in contention. Besides Newgarden and Ericsson, Will Power, Scott Dixon, and the recovered Pato O'Ward show they are in contention.
