Josef Newgarden has been cleared for all weekend activities at the Indianapolis GP. The Penske driver underwent a second medical evaluation after free practice, and will be able to participate in qualifying and the race at the mixed Brickyard.

Newgarden was involved in an accident on lap 235 of the Iowa 2 GP last Sunday while leading the race. The driver was released by doctors, but later collapsed and hit his head, causing a small bruise on his back. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he remained overnight for observation and was released on Monday.

With Indy's decision to only allow Newgarden to participate in the Indianapolis GP 2 after a medical evaluation, Penske has been forced to take a medical exam.With the IndyCar Series' decision to allow Newgarden to participate in the Indianapolis GP 2 only after a medical evaluation, Penske was prepared to put American driver Santino Ferrucci on standby to take over the #2 car in case of a medical veto.

The two-time champion had already been approved last Thursday to participate in free practice, with the condition that he would be re-evaluated after the activity to make sure he could race the rest of the weekend.

Classification for the Indianapolis GP 2 is scheduled for 2:00 pm (Brasília).
