Josef Newgarden had been released by doctors after suffering a hard crash during the Iowa 2 GP, but fell off the side of his trailer and injured his head

Josef Newgarden collapsed outside his trailer after leaving the Iowa 2 GP on Sunday (24). The American ended up injuring the back of his head and was sent by helicopter to a hospital near the circuit, in the city of Des Moines.
The transport was done by helicopter because of the distance to the hospital, and not because of the seriousness of the Penske driver's injuries. According to Dr. Geoffrey Billows, IndyCar Series doctor, Josef is awake and conscious, and will undergo further tests to determine the cause of the discomfort that caused his crash.

Newgarden had been released hours earlier by the category's doctors after suffering a strong accident on lap 235 at the oval. The rear end of his car spun and the American driver couldn't avoid the strong impact at the exit of turn 4, leaving the race when he was leading quite calmly.
Pato O'Ward took advantage of the incident and won the Iowa GP 2. Indy returns this Sunday (31), for the Indianapolis GP 2, at the mixed circuit of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
