New Zealander Scott McLaughlin closed the second day of Indy testing in Iowa in the lead. During the session held on Tuesday (21), the driver put Penske in the lead with an average speed of 173.616 mph. McLaughlin completed 220 laps.
Penske had a double, as second place was Australian Will Power, with an average speed of 173.479 mp/h. The 2014 champion was the driver with the most laps completed on the day, at the 282 mark.
Takuma Sato led Dale Coyne to third place, while Christian Lundgaard was fourth with RLL. Penske's Josef Newgarden rounded out the top-five in Iowa.
McLaren's Mexican Pato O'Ward was sixth, followed by championship leader Marcus Ericsson of Ganassi. Graham Rahal was eighth, and Brazilian Helio Castroneves was ninth, with Meyer Shank, with a best time of 170.594 mp/h.
Scott Dixon rounded out the top-10. Besides them, Jack Harvey, David Malukas, Jimmie Johson, Álex Palou, Simon Pagenaud, Callum Ilott, Felix Rosenqvist, Kyle Kirkwood and Dalton Kellett also participated in the activity.
Indy returns on July 3 with the Mid-Ohio GP at Lexington. The category's visit to the Iowa oval takes place in a double round on the 23rd and 24th of the same month.
