McLaren CEO wants Indy in more countries, but says: "I'm not a fan of us leaving the Americas"

Although he wants to visit more countries, including Brazil, Zak Brown does not want to see IndyCar becoming 'global'. According to McLaren's CEO, the series needs to stay within the territorial limits of the American continent.

In the current 2022 season, Indy has 17 races planned in its calendar - 16 in the United States and one in Toronto, Canada.

"I'm not a fan of us leaving the American continent. I think Mexico would be a great venue. We're already competing in Canada, but I think it's very hard to be a 'domestic' series that occasionally goes global. Either one, or the other. Otherwise, there's not enough exposure to visit Europe or Australia once a year like we used to," Zak Brown reasoned.

"Personally, I would like us to stay in the American continent. Brazil, Mexico, North America. But I don't think going beyond that is something I'm in favor of," the McLaren CEO added.

Indy boss Mark Miles said he agreed with Zak Brown - and outlined Mexico as a country of interest for the American single-seater category.

"We have long seen Mexico as a market where we can imagine ourselves racing. We have to find the right place under the right circumstances, but we are interested in racing there," Miles said.

Argentina, it is worth remembering, has recently shown interest in hosting an Indy race. The country even sent a representative to the 106th edition of the Indianapolis 500 to discuss such interest. Ricardo Juncos, owner of the Juncos Hollinger team, is Argentinean, and has been trying to promote a union between Indy and his home country since his team's debut in the category in 2017 - but the category, for now, has refused to hear the South Americans' proposal to hold a race at the Termas de Río Hondo circuit.
