Kellett is punished for engine change and loses 6 grid positions in Detroit

Indy announced, on Friday (3), a punishment to Canadian driver Dalton Kellett for the Detroit GP. The Foyt #4 car will receive a six-place grid penalty for an engine change made before the Indianapolis 500.

The swap was not approved by Indy and violates rule 16.5.4 of the regulations, which states that once the engine is installed for the Indy 500, it can only be removed for repair. In the race, the Canadian driver started from 29th place and completed the race in 26th.

Kellett currently ranks 29th in the Indy drivers' championship, with 45 points. His best result was recorded at the Texas GP in March, with 17th place.

Recently, Dalton drew attention for his act of humanity when he organized a donation campaign for the support fund for the victims and families affected in the Uvalde massacre, in Texas, which had 21 deaths after a shooting at Robb Elementary school.

The Detroit Indy Grand Prix takes place this Sunday (5), on the street circuit set up at Belle Isle Park. The start is scheduled for 4:45 pm (Brasília).
