Felix Rosenqvist took pole for the "Gallagher Grand Prix" at the Indianapolis track, beating Alexander Rossi by a large margin. His lap of 1min10s2265 was more than a quarter of a second faster than the next best time, which is quite a big advantage for the ultra-competitive category.

The pole is the Swedish driver's third of his career and will give him a good chance of winning his second event in F-Indy. The result will also help Rosenqvist's case, as he remains uncertain whether his future will be in the category or whether he will be dragged back to Formula E.

Rossi was fastest in the morning practice session, but was unable to take pole as he was overtaken at the end by his future team. Pato O'Ward took third place on the grid, showing that his team was able to find and fix the problem that had left him too loose throughout the previous practice session.

Starting alongside him on the second row will be Will Power, as he looks to continue his strong season. Josef Newgarden showed that he had no ill effects from his crash and hospitalization in Iowa by qualifying fifth, and will line up alongside rookie Christian Lundgaard.

Alex Palou was too slow to advance to the Fast 6 race, and will start seventh as he tries to put aside his contract issues for the weekend. Jack Harvey missed advancing to the Top 12 by a mere 0s065s and will line up alongside rookie Devlin DeFrancesco on the sixth row.

Marcus Ericsson had mechanical problems on his first lap and had to stop at the back of the field. The current leader will have to start from the back row on Saturday as he looks to maintain his small advantage.

Helio Castroneves will start 16th. The start will be at 1pm on Saturday, with broadcasting on TV Cultura and ESPN 4.
