Dixon leads Ganassi 1-2 and leads Indy 500 free practice 1. Kanaan 16th

Ganassi opened free practice in Indianapolis at the top with Scott Dixon and Marcus Ericsson separated by just 0.026 seconds. Tony Kanaan was the best Brazilian driver in the session

The first free practice for the 2022 edition of the Indianapolis 500 saw Ganassi double at the top of the grid. New Zealander Scott Dixon, winner in 2008 and pole in 2021, was fastest in the session held on Tuesday morning (17) at the Brickyard, with a best time of 39s626 after 25 laps. Second place went to Sweden's Marcus Ericsson, just 0s026s behind.

Sage Karam was the best Chevrolet-engined car by surprising Dreyer & Reinbold in third, followed by Carpenter's Conor Daly. The top-5 was completed by Marco Andretti.

Santino Ferrucci also put DRR in the top-10 by finishing sixth, followed by Scott McLaughlin's Penske and Alex Palou's Ganassi. McLaren's Pato O'Ward and Foyt's J.R. Hildebrand rounded out the top-10.

Ganassi's Brazilian Tony Kanaan was in 16th place, 1 position below Will Power, winner in 2018 and current championship leader, after clocking 40s220, 0s593 above Dixon. Helio Castroneves, meanwhile, finished 30th, behind Meyer Shank's teammate Simon Pagenaud.

The drivers return to the track at 4:00 pm (Brasília time). The first two hours will be exclusively for Cusick DragonSpeed's Stefan Wilson, who has to go through an orientation program for refreshers, drivers who have been away from Indy and are returning to compete in Indianapolis.
