Dixon hopes for "a little bit of luck" to win first Indy 2022 at Mid-Ohio

Scott Dixon has yet to win in the 2022 Indy season, but is the all-time winner at Mid-Ohio with six wins and hopes to keep up his good record at the circuit

The 2022 Indy season has not been the best for six-time champion Scott Dixon. After eight races, the Ganassi driver has accumulated seven top-10s, but only one podium, with a third-place finish at Detroit. The main disappointment came at the Indianapolis 500, when Dixon let the victory slip away when he went over the speed limit on his last pit stop and received a penalty.

July will be extremely important for the title contenders, with five races in total. Scott now returns to Mid-Ohio, where he holds the record for most wins, with six triumphs, the last of them in 2019. After a rough start to the year, the New Zealander doesn't plan anything different for this Sunday's race (3), but he hopes to have a bit of luck to maintain his good record at the circuit.

"I hope that any of the next races will be the first [win] of the season. I don't think you have to try to change too much, I try to give 100% every weekend regardless to try to win. It's just been really hard recently," Dixon told GRAND PRIZE during a press conference.

"If you have a little bit of luck, that always helps in different scenarios. But it's a great track record we have and I'd definitely like to keep that, so let's keep our heads down and try to get the most out of this situation," the six-time champion continued.

Scott is currently sixth in the Indy standings with 224 points, 69 behind Marcus Ericsson, his teammate. Besides the Swede, reigning IndyCar Series champion Álex Palou is another Ganassi driver in contention for the title. Asked if he believes his teammates are his main rivals this season, Dixon played down the internal dispute and put the team as a priority.

"I think that goes for most years, to be honest. You never know at the beginning of the championship, but then you have a clearer div But I feel that your teammates always have a chance, and it just depends on how the season goes, where sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't," explained the New Zealander.

"At the moment, I think I'm 60, 70 points behind Marcus [Ericsson] and Álex [Palou] is 50 behind, so we definitely have work to do. But again, our biggest goal at the moment is to win the championship, and all of us, drivers and everybody in the team, will be working for one of us to win the championship," the six-time champion concluded.

The Mid-Ohio GP of IndyCar Series will be held this Sunday (3) at the circuit located in Lexington, Ohio. The start is scheduled for 1:50 pm (Brasília).
