A busy IndyCar race on the streets of Toronto left Scott Dixon with his first win of the season, which he took in dominant fashion. The six-time champion started on the front row and managed to overtake pole position man Colton Herta with a quick first pit stop and never looked back.
Dixon's victory puts him tied with the great Mario Andretti for second all-time on the IndyCar win list with 52. It also marks his first win of the season and extends his streak of winning at least one race a season to an incredible 18 years.
Herta finished second. Felix Rosenqvist took the final step on the podium. Next in fourth came Graham Rahal, who badly needed the good result. He had a strong car all weekend and achieved his best result of the season.
Marcus Ericsson completed the top five and managed to keep his car free of damage through several battles on the track for position. The same cannot be said for the others, as there were several cases of broken carbon fibers due to full contact racing.
Takuma Sato was the first to find the wall, and that took only one corner. He simply ran out of room when fighting with Pato O'Ward, and was pushed against the barriers.
The AJ Foyt races had another difficult day, as both drivers had to leave early. Dalton Kellett was first because of an engine failure, smoking heavily as he went around the back of the course.
Kyle Kirkwood also stopped a few laps later, due to contact with Jimmie Johnson that was caused by an overly optimistic move by the rookie in one of the tighter sections of the track.
Alexander Rossi was another driver who crashed into the barriers, with his future teammate Felix Rosenqvist forcing him into heavy contact at turn 3. They were fighting for one of the top positions, and the abandonment cost the Californian many points.
Josef Newgarden was set to have a good day, but he stopped too far from the pit wall and his fuel hose had trouble getting to the car. He salvaged a decent finish and crossed the line in 10th.
