Scott Dixon won the Toronto GP and ended a 22-race winless streak at Indy. The six-time champion now hopes to enter the fight for another IndyCar Series title

Scott Dixon held off Colton Herta to end a 22-race Indy winless streak at Toronto on Sunday. The New Zealander started second and overtook Herta by stopping a lap ahead of his rival and taking advantage of Andretti's cold tires. After the race, the Ganassi driver revealed that he struggled in the warm-up in the morning, but said he was relieved to finally win in 2022.
"We actually struggled with the rear tires. We made some adjustments this morning thinking about the different circuits we've been through this year that we've had understeer issues, but that wasn't the case today. It was a tough race, but I was able to end a bad streak," Scott celebrated.
His main chance of victory in the current season so far had been in the Indianapolis 500. Dixon took the pole position in a dominant way and led most of the race, until he made a mistake and exceeded the speed limit on his last pit stop. The New Zealander said he still feels bad about the defeat and dedicated the victory in Canada to Ganassi.
"I'm really happy for the team, it's been a crazy year for the team in the #9 car, I still feel really bad for everyone involved because of the Indy 500. We were happy that Marcus won for our team, because we deserved it. But it feels great to win again and I also have to give a big thanks to Honda, who helped us a lot with the fuel today," said Dixon.

This was Dixon's fourth win in Toronto and the 52nd victory of his career, equaling Mario Andretti as the second biggest winner in Indy history. The six-time champion is now only behind AJ Foyt, and hopes this is the start of a good streak in his quest for a seventh IndyCar title.
"It's incredible. Every time I hear those questions I just think I have a lot to be thankful that we still have him and AJ in the pits, we can see them, talk to them, it's fantastic. So it's huge, I feel very lucky to be part of this group and hopefully I can get back into title contention now," said the New Zealander
"I hope this is the start of a good streak. I think the team definitely deserves it, we have worked as hard as everyone else. All the teams worked really well this weekend," Scott concluded.
With the result, Dixon moved closer to the fight for the title. The New Zealander now has 307 points, 44 less than Marcus Ericsson, his Ganassi teammate. Indy returns next Saturday (23), for the Iowa 1 GP, with complete coverage fromGRANDE PRÊMIO.
