American Jace Denmark overtook teammate Miles Rowe on the final lap to take his second victory of the year in the category
Jace Denmark won race 1 of the USF2000 series held this Saturday (11) at the Road America circuit. The Pabst Racing American started in second position and grew in the final laps, overtaking New Zealander Billy Frazer two laps from the end and overtaking his teammate, American Miles Rowe, on the last lap to win the race.
On the first lap, Cape Motorsports' American Michael D'Orlando, who started in pole position, was overtaken by Frazer and Rowe, with Denmark dropping to fourth. But the race didn't get much action early on, as the yellow flag was brought out on the second lap after a crash by American Evagoras Papasavvas of Jay Howard. The race didn't restart until lap 5, when a touch between VRD's Nikita Johnson and Joe Dooling's Trey Burke brought out the yellow again.
On the restart on lap 7, Rowe took advantage of the long straight to overtake Frazer and take the lead. Denmark overtook Michael D'Orlando to move into third place. Soon after, Denmark overtook Frazer. D'Orlando tried a maneuver for third, but spun and dropped to the back of the grid.
On the final lap, Jace got the vacuum and overtook his teammate to take his second win of the 2022 season. Miles finished second, with Billy completing the podium. Dylan Christie, Jackson Lee, Thomas Nepveu, Bijoy Garg, Christian Weir, Jacob Douglas, and Spike Kohlberger completed the top ten.
With the result, D'Orlando lost the USF2000 lead to Rowe. The Cape driver will again start from pole position for race 2, which will take place later this Saturday (11).
