Castroneves praises "consistent" car and celebrates "fantastic" top-10 at Mid-Ohio

Brazilian Helio Castroneves thanked Meyer Shank for his work and pointed out that his car was very good in the restarts, something that was crucial to finish the Mid-Ohio GP in eighth

Helio Castroneves got his second best result of the 2022 IndyCar Series on Sunday (3) with an eighth place in the Mid-Ohio GP. Starting 15th after being hindered by Will Power in qualifying, the Brazilian took advantage of the restarts and the good strategy of Meyer Shank to gain positions and finish only for the third time in nine races among the top ten.

"It was a good strategy from the team, the car wasn't the fastest, but it was very consistent. We hit a plateau, but you keep going and we were able to attack and defend. The yellow yellows didn't come at a good moment, but they helped because of the restarts, my car was very good in the restarts, I had a great setup," praised Castroneves after the Mid-Ohio GP.

Helinho's best result so far had been a seventh place in the Indianapolis 500, a race in which he holds the record for wins with four in total. After a frustrating race at Road America and a pitstop in Detroit, the Brazilian finally got the points he wanted: "We needed points and we got them here today, a fantastic top-10 and now let's go to the next one," he concluded.

Penske's Scott McLaughlin won the Mid-Ohio GP after holding off Ganassi's Álex Palou in the closing laps. With the result, Castroneves is now 16th in the Indy drivers' standings. Ganassi's Marcus Ericsson remains in the lead, with a 20-point advantage over Penske's Will Power.
