NIO tested the Gen3 car with Oliver Turvey at Silverstone and was the third Formula E team to release images of the new single-seater, scheduled to debut in the category in 2023
After Porsche and Jaguar were the first Formula E teams to release images of their new Gen3 cars for next year's season, now it is NIO's turn to put its single-seater into action for the first time. The team has posted on its social networks the first records of the NIO 333 ER9, the car that will be used by the team in the next season of the category.
The person responsible for testing the team's car for the first time was the British driver Oliver Turvey, who will be with NIO in 2022 and will remain with the team for next year. The first tests were held at Silverstone, England, last Wednesday (15) and indicated an almost all-blue car for the team next season. However, the color scheme may still undergo changes between now and the start of the next championship.
The new Formula E Gen3 car promises to be the fastest in the history of the category, with a top speed of up to 322 km/h. The single-seater will be the first to feature power trains at the front and rear, with the front being responsible for regenerating up to 250 kW of energy when braking. At the rear, the 350 kW of power makes the new cars more than twice as powerful as the current ones.
In addition, the brakes will be completely different - for the first time, they will not be hydraulic. As the new batteries will have a very high efficiency - up to 95% - it is expected that the total energy recovered by the drivers during the races will represent up to 40% of the total energy spent in the race.
