Edoardo Mortara was fastest in the first free practice session held on Friday (1) in Marrakech, Morocco. The Venturi driver clocked 1min18s670, 0s166 ahead of second place Jean-Éric Vergne.
In third place was the Frenchman's teammate, Brazilian Lucas di Grassi. In fourth place was Porsche's Andre Lotterer from Germany. Closing out the top five is Mahindra's Oliver Rowland from Great Britain.
DS Techeetah's Antonio Félix da Costa ended the practice on the Moroccan track in sixth place, 0s435 behind the Swiss driver. Stoffel Vandoorne, the Formula E season leader, was seventh. Envision's Dutchman Robin Frinjs finished eighth.

Dragon/Penske had its two drivers rounding out the top ten, with Sergio Sette Câmara in ninth and Antonio Giovinazzi in tenth place.
The practice session ended ahead of schedule when reigning class champion Nyck de Vries and DAMS' Sebastien Buemi met at the pit-lane entrance, causing a red flag.
