Edoardo Mortara took over the lead of Formula E after winning last weekend's eP of Marrakech, but preferred to think about the title at the end of the season and explained how he managed to keep pace until the end in Morocco
Edoardo Mortara became the Formula E leader at a crucial moment in the championship, which is tapering down in its final stretch and entered its penultimate month now, in July. With his victory in the eP Marrakech, last Saturday (2), the Swiss driver took the lead from Stoffel Vandoorne and put himself as a firm candidate for the title - especially considering his recent history, with four podiums in a row. After the race, the #48 celebrated a lot and admitted surprise with the pace shown by Venturi.
"It's always a surprise, because Formula E is so unpredictable that you never know what's going to happen," Mortara admitted. "I didn't know we would be so competitive in qualifying and the race before I came here. Marrakech is one of my favorite tracks and I was hoping we could do well here, so I'm loving it. I'm over the moon, super happy for everyone in the team," he celebrated.
Mortara highlighted the balance found in the Formula E grid, with very fair competitions and cars close in level on the track - the main components of the cars are standardized, leaving to the teams the production of the powertrain. And in yet another race marked by scorching heat, managing the temperature of the tires and especially the battery is key in the quest for a good result.

"It's always difficult, all victories are. You face tough competitors, and obviously you need to be better than them - and it's often very difficult," he continued. "I think what made the difference was that we were able to manage the race better than the others. We were able to keep the battery power and the temperature under control and I think that really made the difference," he stressed.
Leading the Driver's World Championship in a dispute that is extremely balanced - he is separated from the fourth place, Mitch Evans, by only 15 points -, Mortara preferred not to comment on the search for the title and emphasized that the important thing is to hold the position after the closing of the competition, in August, in South Korea.
"Yes, but in the end, what counts is after the last race," he acknowledged. "I'm extremely happy, because after Monaco we were very far behind and we have a fantastic run of four podiums in a row. I hope it continues," concluded the championship leader.
Formula E returns in two weeks, with the eP New York double round scheduled to take place on July 16 and 17.
