The chaos that ensued on the closing lap of race 1 of the Formula E eP race in New York ended any chance Stoffel Vandoorne had of winning in Brooklyn. However, as far as the title race is concerned, neither the Belgian nor Edoardo Mortara can complain about the final result on American streets. While the Swiss Venturi driver maintained his championship lead with 150 points, the Belgian Mercedes driver took second place with 137 and is still in the hunt.

Second in the championship when he arrived in New York, Jean-Èric Vergne was hampered by another championship contender: Mitch Evans. The New Zealander touched the rear of the Frenchman's car on the very first lap and caused his rival to spin, compromising his chances in the race from the start. Unable to recover to catch up with the pack, 'JEV' didn't score points for the first time this season and lost a position.

Evans, on the other hand, didn't have much to celebrate. After his touch with Vergne, the Jaguar driver - who didn't manage to qualify well - fought all race long to get into the scoring zone, but he couldn't: he finished 11th, also without points, and saw the first two drivers open their advantage in the search for the title.

With his second place in Saturday's race, Brazilian Lucas Di Grassi gained two positions in the table, reaching 84 points and is now sixth - leaving António Félix da Costa and Nyck de Vries behind. In the last places of the top-10, Pascal Wehrlein tied with teammate André Lotterer on 61 points and took the ninth place - for having a victory, against none of his Porsche partner.

The Formula E weekend in New York continues on Sunday, with race 2 scheduled to take place at 2 pm (EST), with live broadcasting on TV Cultura.
