Formula E unveils layout for Seoul debut with track changes

Formula E is heading into the final stretch of the championship, with three more rounds to come in New York, London, and Seoul - all in double rounds. However, even before visiting Brooklyn and the British capital, the category has already announced the track that will be used for the debut of South Korea in the calendar, right at the end of the 2021/2022 season.

With 22 corners and just over 2.6 km long, the final layout is different from the one that was originally chosen to debut in 2020 - a race that never took place. In 2022, the Seoul track will finally make its first appearance in Formula E, and in the unique condition of hosting the final title race - which promises to unfold until the end of the championship - in August.

Right at the start, the first change: the original layout provided for a left turn towards the second turn, while the new layout includes the first right turn and a sequence of turns until turn 4, which is in the same place occupied by turn 2 in the initial layout.

The passage inside the stadium - the Jamsil Sports Complex, built for the 1986 Asian Games and 1988 Olympics - has also been modified, becoming more circular, while turn 20 - which was cure 17 on the original plan - has gained an extra turn and now splits into two points.

Finally, the main change: the hairpin that used to account for turn 18 - the first one the drivers face after the start - was removed, and a less steep curve was chosen for the location. In the end, with all the changes, the track went from 19 to 22 corners.

The Seoul eP is scheduled to take place on August 13 and 14, closing the current Formula E season. Before that, however, the category still passes through New York - on July 16 and 17 - and London - on July 30 and 31.
