Evans asks Jaguar for more "tune-up" and seeks redemption after mistake in New York in 2021

Mitch Evans took another podium in the 2021/2022 season by leaving Jean-Èric Vergne behind at the end of the race in Marrakech and celebrated the result, but is already thinking about making up for his mistake in New York last year

After a shaky start to the season, Mitch Evans has shown, race after race, that he is in contention for the Formula E title. The Jaguar driver again fought his way to the finish last weekend, when the category went to Marrakech for its tenth round, and managed to take third place from Jean-Èric Vergne in the final moments of the race to secure another podium in 2022.

"It feels good to have a podium here after a very intense race to manage," Evans began. "The team did really well. Starting in sixth place, obviously you want to gain positions. The guys were very fast, I think it was well deserved," the New Zealander acknowledged.

Heading to New York for two more races in the category on a double weekend, Evans wants to use the race to forget the events of last season. Last year, Mitch rode in second position and served as a 'squire' to teammate Sam Bird in what promised to be a fine 1-2 for Jaguar.

However, the New Zealander made a mistake on the penultimate lap and hit the wall harder than the car could handle. With the damage, he lost a lot of performance and ended up only 13th - Bird managed to hold on to the win, followed by Nick Cassidy and António Félix da Costa completing the podium.

Thus, Evans hopes to undo the image he left in his last appearance in New York and keep Jaguar in contention for the Drivers' title. In addition, the New Zealander admitted that he still misses a certain "harmony" with the team, even though he is having a good time.

"Now it's New York, another double round. I wasn't on the podium last year, I made a mistake," Evans recalled. "So I hope to redeem myself with the team by getting a good result there, and everything is working well. We have to do our homework, continue with a good speed. We still need a little more tuning, but overall we are in good shape," finished the Jaguar driver.

Formula E returns in two weeks, with the eP New York double round scheduled to take place on July 16 and 17. A full account of what happened at last year's race can be found by clicking here.
