Engaged in social and environmental causes, Sebastian Vettel was invited by DS Techeetah director Thomas Chevaucher to test the team's Formula E car
Sebastian Vettel's future in Formula One has been discussed since the German was still driving for Ferrari, and a possible retirement of the four-time champion has been the subject of debate for a few years now - and even more so in 2022, with another project below the critical(opens in a new tab)" rel="noreferrer noopener" class="ek-link">as in the case of Lewis Hamilton's jewels, for example.
Known for always engaging in social causes against prejudice, violence, and in favor of a more sustainable method of doing sports, Vettel F1 while defending his causes (opens in a new tab)" rel="noreferrer noopener" class="ek-link">recognized even the "hypocrisy" of racing in F1 while defending his causes. Thus, he was invited by Thomas Chevaucher, director of DS Techeetah, a Formula E team - which shares with the driver the ideals of sustainability - to conduct a test in the team's car.
"Sebastian [Vettel] is very interested in protecting the environment and thinks about climate change, just as we do in Formula E," Chevaucher said. "We don't know how interested he would be in continuing his career in Formula E, but we would like to give him an opportunity to test a carbon-neutral car," he invited.

Currently, the starting duo of DS Techeetah drivers in Formula E is Jean-Èric Vergne and António Félix da Costa, but the trend is that everything will change next year. With the departure of DS, which has partnered with Penske for next year, the Frenchman has already signed a deal to leave the team for the new DS Penske team, while the Portuguese driver is in talks with Porsche to replace André Lotterer as Pascal Wehrlein's teammate.
As for Vettel, this is not the first invitation the four-time world champion has received in recent times regarding his post-F1 career. Besides Formula E, Sebastian was invited by Gerhard Berger to drive in the DTM, German touring car championship, and by Bobby Rahal to be part of the Indy grid in his team's car, RLL.
However, the driver has not confirmed anything so far about a possible retirement, and Vettel's next challenge takes place this weekend. Formula 1 returns to the track between May 20 and 22 for the Spanish GP at the Circuit de Barcelona.
