Di Grassi comments on the "biggest crash of his career" in NY: "I couldn't drive

Lucas Di Grassi was one of the main characters involved in the bizarre accident that ended the Formula E race 1 in New York, when he lost control of his car when going through a waterlogged area of the track and drove straight into the wall - hitting Nick Cassidy's car just before he was also hit by Stoffel Vandoorne. Before commenting on the strong incident, the Brazilian took stock of the first race - in which he managed to get back on the podium with second place.

"A very difficult race, a very strategic start between me, Nick [Cassidy], Vandoorne and Buemi, everyone very close using the attack mode in a strategic way," said Di Grassi. "I managed to keep second place, I was in a good position to attack Nick, but it started raining and it only got worse," said the Brazilian.

Di Grassi realized that there were no conditions to continue the race before the stoppage - which was only decided after the accident, and several other collisions along the track between drivers who could not control their cars. The Brazilian communicated to Venturi his concern and highlighted the crash as "the strongest of his career" since he arrived in Formula E.

"I got on the radio and said: 'Look, we can't drive, we are aquaplaning here'," warned the Brazilian. "These cars are very light, when there is a lot of water they end up coming out and you lose control completely. That's what happened, it was the biggest crash of my Formula E career," he admitted.

"It was a very serious crash, I'm happy that nothing happened, and then to get the second place was very good," celebrated the Venturi driver, who also revealed that his body was completely sore after the incident.

Now Formula E will only return at the end of the month. The eP London double round, the penultimate round of the championship, is scheduled to take place on July 30 and 31.
