In Hughes' place, the Van Amersfoort team confirmed German David Beckmann, who has already participated in two F2 rounds in 2022, replacing Turkish Cem Bölükbasi in Imole for Charouz and competing in the British round with the Dutch team in place of the suspended Amaury Cordeel.

After making sporadic appearances in Formula 2 with HWA in 2020 and 2021, Jake Hughes is in his first full season in the category at the age of 28. The Briton currently occupies 15th place in the standings, and his best result is a fourth place in the main race in Saudi Arabia.

Beckmann was announced as a Charouz driver for the 2021 season, but was replaced by Brazilian Enzo Fittipaldi in the middle of the year due to financial problems. In the four races he has done in 2022, David's best result is a fifth place in Ímola.
