Mercedes boss Toto Wolff says the team's W13 will have further updates at the British GP aimed at taking another step forward.
Although Lewis Hamilton returned to the podium at the Canadian GP, Mercedes still has much to do to have a winning car.
"While we can be pleased with the flashes of speed that the W13 has shown, there is still a mountain to climb," Wolff admitted.
"Quite a bit of work is needed to get to the front, but we have a clear direction now. We are focused on finding more and more performance throughout the season."
Their effort to return to the front will be boosted by updates this weekend, with Hamilton aiming for his ninth home win.
"We know that the two top teams have a considerable advantage. Our challenge is to close that gap."
"Silverstone has been good for us in the past, we will have some improvements and the track is smoother. We are aiming to take another step forward."
Mercedes is a German automaker, but the British GP is basically a home race for the team, which has its headquarters just over 10 minutes away from Silverstone.
"It's always a highlight of the year. The fans are very passionate and well informed. It's also our local event, with Brackley and Brixworth being close by," Wolff added.
"Our team members will be on track on Friday watching from the stands and seeing the results of their hard work in action, which is incredibly exciting."
