Lewis Hamilton was in excellent form last season, but he has not been able to deliver yet 2022. The car the Mercedes driver has now is inferior, but newcomer George Russell has outperformed his compatriot on several occasions. Bernie Ecclestone says that Toto Wolff is a little tired of Hamilton.

Ecclestone, former Formula One owner, told The Daily Mail, "Toto is getting a bit fed up with Lewis. I don't think he's trying, is he? Let's put it another way, Lewis doesn't seem bothered about losing. It's not like him (Wolff). He has a competitive nature - but he's losing a bit easy for my taste."

Hamilton currently holds seven world titles, as many as record holder Michael Schumacher. The Briton would like to add an eighth title to his record, but that doesn't seem likely until 2023 at the earliest.

Mercedes will have to make big strides in any case, and the question is whether Wolff's team will succeed. Hamilton is still under contract for next year, but Ecclestone does not rule out an early end to the partnership.

The 91-year-old billionaire continues, "Lewis can sell his position to Toto, 'This is what I'm getting, I'll resign and give me half of what I would get.' Toto can do one of his magic deals, offer someone less money and still keep 20 million pounds. Nobody needs to tell Toto that because he has already thought of it. Lewis would probably stop under those circumstances.

Finally, Ecclestone says that he is a little surprised by how well Russell has done. However, he also takes into account that the driver, who came from Williams, now looks very good because Hamilton is simply doing badly.
