Vettel sees solidity in Aston Martin after free practice in Baku: "Encouraging day

Four-time champion sees team with good performance and good chances for an excellent qualification this Saturday (11) in Azerbaijan

Sebastian Vettel enjoyed the performance of his Aston Martin on the first day of free practice this Friday (10) in Baku. The 14th place in TL1 and the 11th place obtained in TL2 give a good encouragement to the German in gaining a good position in the standings on Saturday.

The four-time world champion pointed out, however, a climatic difficulty experienced in TL1 that prevented him from going further in qualifying. "It was incredibly windy, so it was very easy to get a spin during braking or go straight through.

The Aston Martin driver drew a comparison between the two practice sessions to explain his rise and, consequently, the improvement of the AMR22: "We spent the first session working on some balance issues, but the car fitted better with the track from TL2 on," he explained.

Vettel, who is on a collision course with the FIA president because of his social stances, wants to go beyond the controversy and show that, in fact, he can have a second consecutive race in the points zone.

"I had a few blocks during practice, but otherwise it was a very smooth day, in fact, we had an encouraging day today. I think we are in a solid position for qualifying," Seb said.
