Vettel Regrets Cancelled Lap, but Sees "Many Chances" for Aston Martin in Austria

Sebastian Vettel will start last in the sprint race, but still remains optimistic for the Austrian GP

Once again, Aston Martin ended a qualifying session with a bad impression. The British team had both drivers eliminated in Q1 of qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix early on Friday afternoon in Spielberg. Lance Stroll was 17th, but Sebastian Vettel was 20th. The four-time champion had his last lap cancelled for driving outside the track limits and regretted the result. But he maintained a certain optimism.

According to Vettel, even without the cancelled lap, Aston Martin could not advance to Q2. The car, however, is better in race conditions and has two chances to recover: the sprint race and the official race.

"It was a shame to have my lap deleted for crossing outside the track limits. I even lost a bit of time in turn one anyway, so it was a double punishment after all," he said.

"Even so, we didn't have the pace to qualify for the next round of the time trial. But we have plenty of opportunities in tomorrow's sprint race. I hope to be in a better position when we start for the race on Sunday," he finished.
