According to Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel, his future will become clear in the coming weeks. His contract expires at the end of the year, but it is still unclear whether the German wants to continue.
With Aston Martin, it has been a season of ups and downs for Vettel. In the world championship standings, the German is in fourteenth place, but he is better than his teammate Lance Stroll, who has three points. In the constructors' standings, Aston Martin is in penultimate place, ahead of Williams.
Speaking to F1insider.com, the four-time world champion German says a decision will be made soon. "I haven't decided yet, but I will make up my mind in the next few weeks. It depends on how the car develops throughout the season," he said.
Vettel made no secret of what Aston Martin's goals should be if it wants to keep him. "I want to fight for points and wins. If it doesn't work out, I have to go. I will think about it with my family. I have to figure out if I have the energy to achieve those goals with them, and if it's realistic," he commented.
Asked if a move to another team is still an option, the 35-year-old driver emphasized that this is out of the question at the moment. "At the moment, my total focus is on Aston Martin. I'm not thinking about moving to another team at the moment," Vettel concluded.
