Vettel celebrates recovery and explains Albon's crash in England: "Everybody braked

Sebastian Vettel managed to make a good recovery run on Sunday (3) at the British GP, after an Aston Martin qualifying forget the day before. Starting from 18th place, the four-time world champion managed to gain nine positions over the course of an extremely busy race - and marked by a big crash - to add two more points with ninth place on his 35th birthday.

"It's nice to score points on my birthday and at the team's home race, especially when you consider where we started [in 18th place]," Vettel admitted. "Overall, I think it was a decent race and a good recovery," celebrated the driver, who reached 15 points in the standings and tied with McLaren's Daniel Ricciardo for 13th place in the World Championship.

In addition to the climb that he had to make in the pack to reach the points zone, another moment that marked Vettel's race happened at the start, when the driver could not escape the chaos caused by the collision between George Russell, Pierre Gasly and Guanyu Zhou and ended up hitting Alexander Albon - who was sent to the hospital.

Lance Stroll's teammate highlighted the chaos that occurred at the first start, which saw the race being stopped on the first lap, and regretted that he was unable to avoid the 'T' accident with the Williams driver - who has already posted a statement emphasizing that he is fine after receiving care.

"The first start, with the red flag, was very chaotic. I started very well and that launched me into a space almost next to Alex [Albon]. Then I got squeezed and everyone braked as a reaction to the crash ahead. I braked, but I couldn't avoid contact with Alex. The most important thing is that everyone involved is okay," Vettel concluded.

Formula 1 returns next weekend with the Austrian GP at the Red Bull Ring, scheduled to take place between July 8 and 10.
