Sebastian Vettel has been standing out as an important voice in defense of the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community, so much so that he was one of the athletes chosen to be the cover of the British magazine Attitude, aimed at the gay public. And the four-time champion has made it clear that he sees social agendas as much bigger than Formula 1 itself, reiterating that he will not fail to express his position on race weekends.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem asked in a recent interview if "we should impose all the time our beliefs beyond the sport". Only, to exemplify the line of thought, the official caused controversy by speaking that "Vettel rides a rainbow bike, Lewis [Hamilton] is passionate about the issue of human rights, and [Lando] Norris talks about mental health."

Vettel was asked about the issue on Friday (10) in Azerbaijan. "The topics that Lewis keeps bringing up, the issues that Lando has been talking about and the things that I mentioned are very important topics to address. And they are bigger than us, bigger than a sport can be," stressed the Aston Martin representative.

Hamilton also commented on Sulayem's statements, but preferred to make an appeal to his colleagues on the grid, asking them to be more frank about the issues they believe in. And Vettel followed the Englishman's position, saying that social issues "should be mentioned and expressed to raise people's awareness.

"There are still many things we can improve on," he concluded.
