Max Verstappen finished only seventh, but saw Charles Leclerc drop to fourth and Sergio Pérez be second
When Max Verstappen lost power just as he was leading the British GP on lap 12, and opened the way for two Ferrari cars to take the top spots, the feeling was one of redemption in Maranello. It was a chance to regain ground in the Drivers' and Constructors' World Championships. And it actually happened, but far from what was imagined. Red Bull came out ahead.
Verstappen managed to stay in the race, albeit at a bad pace, but he counted on other retirements to finish in a very positive seventh place. Charles Leclerc was again a victim of Ferrari's strategy and dropped from pole position to fourth. Sergio Pérez, who had to make a pit-stop due to a broken wing early on, recovered and took second place.
Thus, Verstappen has 181 points against 147 for Pérez: 34 points difference. Leclerc only has 138 and loses the chance to catch up. He is still 43 points behind.
