Almost everyone had Max Verstappen tipped as the qualifying winner for the British GP, but it was Carlos Sainz who managed to surprise. The Dutchman was the fastest throughout Saturday, but some mistakes in Q3 and a yellow flag prevented him from achieving pole position.
"Qualifying was tricky. It rained for a moment and then it dried out again. You have to be on track at the right moments," Verstappen started to tell Billy Monger on the grid. His fast laps in the last qualifying session were not enough for the 24-year-old driver, so he still has fifteen poles.
The RB18 was not a problem on Saturday afternoon. "The car worked well. In Q3, sometimes it's a lottery if you want to make the best time. I was a bit hindered by the yellow flag on my last lap, unfortunately, but a front row grid place is very good for us. We have a good race car," he commented.
When asked about how aggressive he wants to be on the first lap tomorrow, Verstappen says, "It's not only about the first lap. It's also about tire management. I'm looking forward to tomorrow," he concludes.
