Verstappen rebuts Pérez's statement on RB18: "Updates were not for me"

Max Verstappen denied that the RB18 upgrades were made to fit his driving style

Before the Austrian GP, Sergio Pérez revealed that he no longer feels so comfortable with the RB18. According to the Mexican, the updates have changed the car a lot. However, Max Verstappen denied that the changes were to fit his driving style. He reiterates that the main goal, above the drivers, is to have speed on the track.

"We always try to make the car faster, and whatever they update in the car, you have to adapt to that," he said. "And that's exactly what I've been doing," he added.

"Of course I opine on what I would like in my car in general, but the updates in the car are not designed specifically for me. It's just more pace," he followed.

At the Red Bull Ring, the hosts saw a superior Ferrari. The team itself admitted that the Italians surprised, especially after Verstappen took pole and victory in the sprint race. However, for the #1, one of the main problems is in relation to the weight of the car. According to German portal Auto Motor und Sport, the Taurinos are 10kg over the limit - which is 798kg.

"I would say that we are not amazing in the classification. But that's not just to do with the car, we're still a bit heavy," he acknowledged.

"So that's just a limitation we have, we still need to lose weight with the car, which we are working on. But I think in the race it's a little less problematic because, first of all, you can't push like in qualifying. So it probably helps a little bit with the way we have the car today, and this weight problem with a full tank is a little bit less visible," he closed.
